If your smile has been injured in a transport accident, Smile Line Dental can help you get back on track.
The Transport Accident Commission (TAC) will pay for your dental services, provided in Australia, needed as a result of a transport accident. This includes maxillofacial surgery or an oral surgeon.
TAC may contact you or your provider to check your progress and see if you are getting the support you need.
This will help make sure your treatment is helping your recovery. It will also allow TAC to make decisions about the kind of treatment and payment duration.
How to get dental treatment with TAC
- If it has been more than 6 months since you have had any treatment paid for, call TAC to find out if they can pay for more treatment.
- Call Smile Line Dental and book an appointment. Inform us if you are a TAC client.
- Come and provide us with your TAC claim number.
TAC can also pay for any radiology or diagnostic procedures you need as part of your dental treatment.
What we can do
At Smile Line Dental, we are dedicated to treating injuries, diseases, and conditions that affect the teeth, gums, jaw, and mouth.
If you are injured in a transport accident, your dentist at Smile Line Dental can help you. Here are the most common transport emergencies and what we can do:
Broken tooth
Any injury to your teeth, such as a broken tooth, can be traumatic. It’s not only painful but also embarrassing, especially if the damage is to your front teeth.
Getting the damage to your teeth treated is a priority to lessen both the pain and any appearance issues; however, getting any dental treatment performed can be quite expensive.
If the damage to your teeth is not your fault, you can file a TAC claim just as you would with any other type of personal injury.
Knocked-out tooth
A knocked-out tooth is one of the most serious dental emergencies for permanent teeth. However, the damage can often be fixed. If you respond quickly, there’s a good chance the tooth can be saved.
While waiting to see your dentist, here’s what you can do:
When a tooth has been avulsed (knocked out), the nerves, blood vessels, and supporting tissues are damaged, too. The nerves and blood vessels can’t be treated.
That is why all knocked-out teeth will need root canal therapy. However, the bone can reattach to the root of the permanent tooth once it’s reinserted.
- locate the tooth
- handle it by the crown
- lick the tooth clean if it’s dirty, or rinse it in water
- put it back into position (permanent teeth only); never try to reinsert a temporary tooth
- bite on a handkerchief to hold the tooth in place
- see us immediately
How to pay for treatment
In most cases, TAC will pay your provider. If you have to pay upfront, scan or take a photo of your receipt, send it to TAC using the ‘Upload documents’ button on myTAC, or by email to info@tac.vic.gov.au.
TAC will pay for your treatment at the TAC rate. If your provider charges more than the TAC rate, you may need to pay the difference (gap payment).
If you need to pay a gap, you may be able to recover some of the cost through Medicare or private health insurance.
